Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 August 2026
Maweni Christian Guest House ("we", "us", "our"), Casuarina Road, Malindi, Kenya, is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits this website or stays with us. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it is protected, in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
1. Information we collect
- When you book online: your name, phone number, email address, preferred room(s), dates, and number of guests.
- When you check in as a guest (walk-in or on arrival): your full name, phone number, and a national ID / passport number. We also record the room assigned, length of stay, and payment amount.
- Automatically: standard technical information common to any website visit (see our Cookie Policy for details — we do not run tracking or advertising cookies).
2. Why we collect ID and contact information
Recording a guest's identification details and contact information at check-in is a standard, long-established practice for guest houses and hotels in Kenya. We collect it specifically to:
- Guest and property safety — to know who is on the premises, to assist swiftly in an emergency, and to deter and, if necessary, investigate incidents affecting guests or staff.
- Legal and regulatory compliance — accommodation establishments are expected to maintain a register of guests, and we may be required to produce this to the relevant Kenyan authorities (e.g. police, county government, tourism regulator) if lawfully requested.
- Booking and payment records — to confirm your stay, issue receipts, and resolve any billing questions.
3. Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data on the following legal bases: performance of the accommodation contract with you; our legitimate interest in keeping guests, staff, and the property safe; and compliance with legal obligations relating to guest registration and record-keeping.
4. How your information is stored and protected
- Guest and booking records are kept in a password-protected admin system accessible only to authorised staff.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.
- We do not share your ID or contact details with third parties except: (a) with your consent, (b) where required to fulfil your booking (e.g. our own car hire/tour partners you specifically ask us to arrange), or (c) where required by Kenyan law or a lawful request from a public authority.
5. How long we keep your information
We retain guest registration and booking records for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including any period required to meet accounting, legal, or regulatory obligations, after which records are securely deleted or anonymised.
6. Your rights
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to: be informed how your data is used; request access to the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your data, where the law allows; and object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC), Kenya.
7. Children's information
Our website and booking process are not directed at children. Where a guest travels with a minor, we may record the minor's name and age solely as part of the accompanying adult's booking, and only as needed for accommodation and safety purposes.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
9. Contact us
